Nearly two decades have passed since the pastel-colored houses of the picturesque harbour village of Balamory first appeared on television screens.
On Tuesday, the BBC announced the beloved CBeebies show would make a return, with two new series commissioned to air in 2026.
Originally produced from 2002 to 2005, the new series is expected to once again be set in the Scottish village of Balamory, known for its brightly colored houses encircling a charming harbour.
The stories will continue to focus on a nursery school and its teacher at the heart of the community.
During its original run, Balamory attracted millions of viewers worldwide, sparked a successful live show, and won Best Pre-School Live Action Series at the 2004 Bafta Children’s Awards.
The BBC confirmed that filming will take place in Scotland, either in the original location of Tobermory or potentially another Scottish site like Rothesay.
Kate Morton, head of commissioning for BBC Children’s and Education (ages 0-6), shared her excitement: “A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies.
It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly colored world, where they can get to know both old and new characters.”
The BBC revealed that it is seeking ideas from producers that will feature a mix of original characters alongside new faces to engage today’s preschoolers.
The two new series will each consist of 10 episodes, with each episode running for 14 minutes. Further details, including casting information, will be announced at a later date.
