Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are teaming up again for another action-packed adventure.
On Wednesday, January 22, Amazon MGM Studios revealed the first look at The Accountant 2, the sequel to their 2016 action thriller The Accountant, featuring Affleck, 52, and Bernthal, 48.
In this new installment, Christian Wolff (Affleck) is “pulled out of hiding by Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) after someone close to them is murdered by mysterious assassins,” according to the film’s synopsis.
“To uncover the truth behind the murder, Wolff must enlist the help of his estranged but highly skilled and dangerous brother Brax (Bernthal).”
J.K. Simmons also returns to reprise his role as Ray King, the director of the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Bureau.
The film will make its world debut at the SXSW Film Festival on March 8 before hitting theaters on April 25.
The Accountant (2016) starred Affleck as Christian, a highly skilled accountant with a secret past, while Bernthal’s character Brax was revealed to be Christian’s estranged brother at the film’s climax.
However, the sequel will not bring back several stars from the first film, including Anna Kendrick, Jeffrey Tambor, Jean Smart, and John Lithgow.
Directed again by Gavin O’Connor, with the script written by Bill Dubuque, The Accountant 2 continues the story of the Wolff brothers and their dangerous, high-stakes world.
Affleck also serves as a producer on the film alongside his longtime collaborator Matt Damon through their production company, Artists Equity.
The company has also been behind films like Air (2023), the Jennifer Lopez documentary The Greatest Love Story Never Told, her latest movie Unstoppable, and the Damon and Casey Affleck-led heist-comedy The Instigators.
Affleck filmed the sequel during the spring of 2024, just as reports about issues in his marriage to Lopez, 55, began to surface. Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, officially ending their two-year marriage. Their divorce was finalized on January 6, 2025.
The Accountant 2 will hit theaters on April 25.
