Here’s your first glimpse at Black Bag, the international spy thriller from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh.
This high-stakes drama features an impressive cast, including Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, Regé-Jean Page, Marisa Abela, Naomie Harris, Tom Burke, and Pierce Brosnan.
According to the official synopsis, Black Bag is a thrilling spy story centered on the legendary intelligence agent George Woodhouse and his wife, Kathryn. When suspicions arise that Kathryn may have betrayed her country, George is thrust into the ultimate moral dilemma: Should he choose loyalty to his marriage or his nation?
Focus Features is set to release Black Bag on March 14. The film is produced by Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs, with David Koepp penning the screenplay.
Soderbergh recently collaborated with Koepp on Presence, which made its world premiere at Sundance 2024. Presence stars Lucy Liu, Chris Sullivan, Callina Liang, Julia Fox, Eddy Maday, and West Mulholland.
Soderbergh’s schedule remains packed. Just earlier this month, we reported that he cast Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings), Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You), and James Corden (Gavin & Stacey) in his next project, The Christophers. This new film is set to begin production in London this coming February.
The Christophers is a dark comedy that delves into the story of estranged children of a once-renowned artist who hires a forger to finish his unfinished works. The aim is for these works to be discovered and sold posthumously. The screenplay for the project is written by Ed Solomon, a frequent Soderbergh collaborator.
Solomon’s previous work with Soderbergh includes the 2021 crime film No Sudden Move, the Full Circle miniseries, and the experimental HBO murder mystery Mosaic (released both as a series and a mobile app). Solomon was also involved in Bill & Ted Face the Music, which Soderbergh executive produced.
