BTS, the renowned K-pop sensation, has achieved a historic milestone by securing the top position in Japan’s esteemed Oricon Reiwa Era Rankings for comprehensive artist sales, as confirmed by their management company, Big Hit Music, on April 21.
This accomplishment signifies the inaugural instance of a foreign artist leading the overall rankings since the Reiwa era commenced in May 2019.
The rankings were meticulously calculated, encompassing the period from May 2019 to January of this year, and encompassed a wide array of formats including singles, albums, music DVDs, Blu-rays, digital singles and albums, as well as streaming.
BTS emerged as the dominant force, showcasing their versatility across all formats. Notably, the group’s sales were predominantly driven by album sales, constituting 36.6% of the total, followed closely by music DVDs and Blu-rays at 33.8%, with streaming contributing 25% to their overall success.
BTS has attained unprecedented success across multiple categories, claiming the pinnacle among foreign artists in eight distinct sectors, encompassing combined singles, albums, individual formats, and streaming.
Their groundbreaking album ‘BTS, THE BEST” soared past the 1.05 million copies mark in sales, establishing it as the sole album by a foreign artist to achieve million-seller status in Japan throughout the Reiwa era.
This remarkable feat underscores BTS’s burgeoning influence and popularity within the global music landscape, particularly in Japan, where they persistently shatter records and establish new standards for achievement.
