The teaser video for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 features the faces of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln on Mount Rushmore covered with black blindfolds that collectively read “The Truth Lies,” signaling a mysterious theme for the upcoming game announced by publisher Activision.
This year’s edition of Call of Duty marks a return to the globe-trotting Black Ops franchise, following 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War.
The announcement was preceded by a leaked full-page USA Today newspaper ad, which fans had already shared online before the official reveal.
A teaser video titled “wake up (rushmore) #thetruthlies” shows a squad vandalizing Mount Rushmore with blindfolds at night, with Lincoln’s blindfold featuring a three-headed wolf emblem reminiscent of Modern Warfare 3.
IGN also highlighted a fan’s observation suggesting the game might be set during the Gulf War conflict.
As of now, no release date, edition details, or pricing information has been disclosed for what Activision calls a “dark new chapter” in the franchise.
Activision has scheduled a further reveal for June 9 at 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) during an online Xbox Games Showcase, followed by a Black Ops 6 Direct broadcast.
In the previous Black Ops game, the main story was set in the early 1980s and served as a direct sequel to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Similar to other Call of Duty titles, multiplayer featured a Zombies mode and the free-to-play battle royale game Warzone. Treyarch Studios and Raven Software are developing the game.
