Donald Glover, known for his multi-faceted talents as a musician, writer, actor, director, and producer, is making a return to the stage as Childish Gambino.
Surprising fans with a late-night release, Glover revealed “Atavista,” a reimagined version of his 2020 project “3.15.20.”
Accompanying this album drop is the announcement of an upcoming tour titled “The New World Tour,” slated to commence in August.
Glover revealed on his social media platforms that the tour will span across North America, Europe, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
This revelation comes as Glover has been making waves in the entertainment industry, recently starring in and co-creating a reboot of the “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” series for Amazon Prime.
Despite previously declaring his 2018 tour as the final Childish Gambino tour, Glover’s return to touring marks a highly anticipated event for fans worldwide.
For weeks, Donald Glover has been hinting at the return of Childish Gambino. His presence as a surprise guest at Coachella in April heightened speculation, especially after Glover disclosed on an Instagram livestream that he would be dropping two final albums under the Childish Gambino moniker.
Teasing fans further, Glover revealed the tracklist for one of the albums on an Instagram Story, revealing collaborations with artists like Ariana Grande, 21 Savage, and Summer Walker.
Adding to the excitement, Glover released a six-minute black-and-white music video for “Little Foot Big Foot” featuring Young Nudy.
The video showcases Glover portraying a jazz-age entertainer, with Quinta Brunson portraying the venue owner.
Alongside “Atavista,” Glover announced plans for another album release this summer, though he kept the exact date under wraps. He also hinted at a second album, which will serve as the soundtrack to his upcoming film “Bando Stone and the New World.”
“This last Childish Gambino album is a soundtrack to this film and it’s for my fans,” he said.
Despite ongoing speculation about his retirement, Donald Glover has been dropping hints for years about the eventual end of the Childish Gambino persona.
As far back as 2017, Glover shared with fans that there was a finite timeline for Childish Gambino.
Even after winning a Grammy for best traditional R&B performance in 2018, Glover reaffirmed his commitment to concluding the musical project.
“I like endings and I think they’re important to progress,” he said in a news conference at the award show.
Donald Glover, renowned for his role in creating and starring in the acclaimed series “Atlanta,” is also busy with numerous other ventures.
Among these projects, Glover is slated to reprise his role for Peacock’s “Community: The Movie,” a highly anticipated reunion of the beloved cast from the Dan Harmon comedy series.
“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told in a recent interview.
Donald Glover will also lend his voice once more to the character of Simba in the upcoming Disney live-action film, “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
Scheduled for release on December 20, the film is highly anticipated by fans of the iconic animated classic.
