Danny DeVito makes a strong statement in an interview regarding the Twins 2 sequel. Twins was a blockbuster movie released in 1998 starring the iconic pair Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. In demand of seeing the pair back onscreen, the director had planned a sequel to the comedy-drama film.
Back in 2021, it was reported that the sequel will have another lead actor apart from the two. The context of the movie will be an addition of a third sibling, which was rumored to be Trancy Morgan. The movie will be directed by Ivan Reitman, who directed the original film also.
In his recent interview with GQ, Danny revealed that the sequel to the movie Twins, the Triplets, may not happen any time soon. He sarcastically said that the movie should have been made long back before his co-actor Arnold was chosen to become The Governor.
Danny added that he is still hoping to work with Arnold on a separate project. He confirmed that the movie will be a complete entertainment and is related to two friends. While not Triplets, the movie will be a fun treat to fans of the film who loved the chemistry of these two.
Arnold Schwarzenegger comments on why the project is dead.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and all the other crew were really excited to come up with a project featuring one of the most humorous characters in the 90s movies. It was reported that the screenplay was written by Dylan Dawson and Lucas Kavner. The film was yet to be started in October 2022 but was put on halt when director Ivan Reitman passed away.
Even after the demise of Ivan, Arnold was optimistic about Triplets getting made. He said in an interview that he had hoped the project would be back in full swing with a different director. But the actor recently revealed that Reitman’s son had frozen the project after his father’s death.
Arnold also commented that it was a dream project for him, Ivan Reitman, and Danny DeVito. They had all the financing and wanted to do the film so badly. The actor seems upset with the decision of Ivan’s son, Jason Reitman.
Jason said that he never liked the idea of the film and has decided not to move further with the making of the film. The actors seem quite disappointed with the decision. DeVito revealed that he and Arnold wanted to make Twins 2 many years ago, but politics got in the way.
Arnold served as the Governor of California from 2003 to 2011. The actor was first recognized as a bodybuilder and has won many titles, such as Mr. Universe(Pro and Amateur) and Mr. Olympia, consecutively for several years.
He has also participated in powerlifting, where he represented his home country, Austria, and has brought many championship trophies to his land. Arnold later stepped into the field of acting and has done so many films, including Terminator, Twins, Predator, and Commando.
The motivation for a sequel of Twins
Twins told the story of a pair of unlikely fraternal twins, played by Schwarzenegger and DeVito, who were separated at birth and reunited 35 years later, surprised by the many differences between them. The film also starred Kelly Preston, Chloe Webb, and Bonnie Bartlett.
The movie’s plot was very interesting and fascinating. It was a big success at the box office, grossing more than $216 million with a budget of $18 million. The duo was also a huge hit for their dissimilarities and chemistry onscreen.
The duo was something the audiences were waiting for too long. The sequel would have been a chance to flash the great chemistry they showed as the unlikeliest of siblings all those decades ago. Unfortunately, the movie will never be on screens as the producer Jason Reitman has frozen the project.
Sadly, it seems Julius and Vincent have missed their best chances to ever reunite on-screen and continue the wacky adventures they kicked off back in 1988. A new project of them has been brewing up, and the fans will have a chance to see them onscreen.
