Danny Masterson, a convicted rapist, was supposed to turn in 23 guns when he was arrested for a felony three years ago, but he failed to do so for nine of them. According to Rolling Stone, two of the Jane Does, whose allegations led to his criminal prosecution, express fear and a need for clarification.
On Monday, those who have been identified as Jane Does appeared in court in Los Angeles. Judge Charlaine Olmedo gave Masterson’s team until December 7 to provide proof that the weapons had been found and securely stored during the hearing.
Judge Olmedo declared that if Masterson’s attorneys failed, she would grant a search and seizure order.
Some of the missing weapons are semi-automatic rifles
One of the Jane Does voiced serious concerns, especially since semi-automatic rifles are among the missing weapons connected to the disgraced actor from That ’70s Show. After the hearing, she expressed her distress to Rolling Stone, saying that they were “very upset” about the missing guns. She had testified months earlier in the trial that the night of Masterson’s 2003 assault on her, he pulled a gun from his nightstand.
“He has a lot of people who will support him,” she continued, her eyes welling up with tears. It’s eerie. How there is no oversight is beyond me. It was just Scout’s Honor, I suppose.
The second Jane Doe who was present at the hearing on Monday testified during the trial as well, but the jury was unable to agree on anything regarding her alleged assault. She is still one of the plaintiffs in the case against Masterson and the Church of Scientology, alleging harassment and stalking in relation to the claims of sexual assault.
She expressed her confusion to Rolling Stone by saying, “We have crazy, insane people who want us destroyed, and these guns were never turned over. It’s unclear to me. Every day, I get death threats.”
Judge Olmedo inquires about Danny Masterson’s guns
Judge Olmedo asked about the guns that were noted as outstanding on Masterson’s most recent probation report during the hearing. Kate Mangels, the defense attorney, replied, “I can represent that they’re not in his possession, custody, or control and have not been since prior to the 2020 order, but we are continuing to investigate and confirm as to the location and status of those firearms.”
Judge Olmedo enquired as to whether Masterson was ignorant of the guns’ present location in an attempt to get clarification.
Mangels did not answer right away, so the judge carried out her decision. Judge Olmedo stressed that a resolution was necessary and gave Masterson’s side until December 7 to either legally obtain or turn in all outstanding firearms to local law enforcement, failing which a search warrant may be issued.
Danny Masterson also sentenced 30-year to life sentence
Judge Olmedo had given Masterson a 30-year to life sentence in prison in September of the previous year for having sexually assaulted two women in 2003 when his sitcom career was at its height.
During the sentencing, a different Jane Doe, who was raped in 2003 but was not present at the hearing on Monday, said in her victim impact statement, “You stole from me when you raped me.” Rape is a theft of the spirit, that much is true. You are completely violent, deranged, and pitiful. Your incarceration is a better place for the world.”
After a previous trial on the same charges ended in a hung jury, Masterson was found guilty by a jury in May. Three women who testified emotionally during both trials were the ones whose accusations led to the charges.
Before engaging in sexual assault, the three women claimed that Masterson had given them drugs. They were active members of the Church of Scientology at the time of the incidents, and they testified that Masterson was protected by Church officials.
