Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd uncover an extraordinary mystery in the trailer for the upcoming A24 film, Death of a Unicorn.
The feature, written and directed by Alex Scharfman, is slated for a spring release. The ensemble cast includes Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes.
Death of a Unicorn follows a father (Rudd) and his daughter (Ortega) during a weekend retreat with his billionaire boss (Grant). Their journey takes a bizarre turn when they accidentally hit a unicorn with their car. The situation escalates when the boss discovers that the unicorn possesses miraculous properties.
“I think we know exactly what it is,” Ortega’s character declares as the group examines the mystical creature. “It’s a fucking unicorn.”
When Poulter’s character learns about the unicorn’s ability to cure cancer, he reacts, “Cancer? That’s the biggest one.”
In a pivotal moment, Ortega pleads, “Dad, please just listen to me. We need to give the little one back, OK? Bad things will happen.”
Scharfman also serves as a producer alongside Tyler Campellone, Tim Headington, Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Lars Knudsen, and Theresa Steele Page. Executive producers include Ortega, Rudd, and Ari Aster.
Scharfman previously worked as a producer on Amazon’s recent horror film, House of Spoils, starring Ariana DeBose.
Ortega is set to return for the second season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, premiering next year. Her recent film credits include Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Miller’s Girl, and Scream VI.
Rudd has recently appeared in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as in the critically acclaimed series Only Murders in the Building.
