Jonathan Anderson, a renowned fashion designer from Northern Ireland, has officially taken on the role of creative director for both women’s and men’s collections at the iconic French fashion house Dior. This announcement follows his earlier confirmation in April that he would lead Dior’s menswear line.
Anderson, who recently stepped down from his long-standing position at Loewe after over a decade, becomes the first designer in Dior’s history to head both departments. Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, he said he felt it was a “great honour” to contribute to the heritage and future of the brand.
Dior Restructures Creative Leadership Amid Global Fashion Industry Shifts and Transitions
Anderson’s appointment comes amid a significant reshuffling of top fashion roles globally. His new position follows the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s former artistic director for womenswear, and Kim Jones, who stepped down from the menswear role earlier this year.
Anderson is set to debut his first collection, Dior Men Summer 2026, at Paris Fashion Week on 27 June. This transition reflects a broader trend of change in the luxury fashion industry, driven by both strategic repositioning and leadership exits.

Key figures at Dior and its parent company, LVMH, have publicly welcomed Anderson’s new role. Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s chair, described him as “one of the greatest creative talents of his generation” and praised his unique artistic style.
Delphine Arnault, Dior’s chairperson, shared her excitement about Anderson’s appointment, citing his longstanding relationship with LVMH and his ability to modernize the brand while respecting its rich legacy. Both leaders emphasized the importance of Anderson’s creative vision in shaping Dior’s future.
A Visionary Designer Blending Gender Fluidity, Pop Culture, and High Fashion Excellence
Jonathan Anderson has long been celebrated for his inventive, gender-fluid designs and bold aesthetic. His work has often blurred traditional fashion boundaries, with standout moments including designing Rihanna’s Super Bowl outfit and Ariana Grande’s Met Gala gown.
He has also gained recognition for pieces that become cultural touchstones, such as the crochet cardigan worn by Harry Styles that sparked a viral TikTok trend. Anderson’s ability to merge artistic expression with mass appeal has earned him accolades and a dedicated following.
Born in Magherafelt, County Londonderry, Anderson began his fashion journey at the London College of Fashion and started his career in Prada’s marketing department. He launched his own brand, JW Anderson, in 2008 and rose to prominence with innovative collections that gained international attention. In 2013, he became the creative director at Loewe, where he revitalized the heritage brand.
Over the years, he has collected several prestigious awards, including Designer of the Year in 2024. Beyond his professional achievements, he is also known as the son of former Ireland rugby captain Willie Anderson, adding to the intrigue of his personal and professional story.
