There’s plenty of early 2000s nostalgia coming to theaters next year, as Disney has announced release dates for Freakier Friday and the live-action Lilo & Stitch.
Lilo & Stitch will hit theaters on May 23, 2025, where it will go head-to-head with Mission: Impossible 8 from Paramount.
Freakier Friday is set to debut on August 8, 2025, which will see it competing with a Warner Bros. film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
Freakier Friday reunites Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the stars of the 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday.
The original movie followed mother-daughter duo Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) as they swapped bodies for a day, learning about each other’s struggles in the process.
Directed by Late Night filmmaker Nisha Ganatra, the sequel picks up with Anna now having a daughter of her own and an upcoming stepdaughter.
“As they go through the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” the synopsis reveals.
The Freakier Friday cast includes returning stars Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
New cast members include Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
Meanwhile, Lilo & Stitch is being directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. This live-action and CGI hybrid film is based on the 2002 animated classic, which tells the story of the bond between a young girl and a dog-like alien.
Maia Kealoha will play Lilo, while Chris Sanders is set to return as the voice of Stitch. Disney provided a first look at the upcoming film during D23 in August.
