Disney has officially removed an untitled Star Wars film, previously slated for release on December 18, 2026, from its schedule. In its place, Ice Age 6 will take over the spot.
While Disney never confirmed the exact nature of this scrapped Star Wars project, it had been announced earlier that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was set to direct an installment centered on Daisy Ridley’s Rey.
This story would have followed her journey after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The project faced significant hurdles this year, including the departure of screenwriter Steven Knight, who had replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, both of whom had also exited the project.
During last year’s Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy teased that the film would go through Rey’s efforts to build a new Jedi Order. This isn’t the first time a potential Star Wars project has failed to materialize.
Other proposed entries in the franchise—including films from director Patty Jenkins, Marvel producer Kevin Feige, “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson, and “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss—have been announced over the years but ultimately shelved.
For now, fans can look forward to the next installment in the galaxy-spanning saga: “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau, which is set to premiere in May 2026.
Additionally, another untitled “Star Wars” film remains on the schedule for December 17, 2027.
In other developments, Lucasfilm recently announced a new trilogy with X-Men alum Simon Kinberg as writer and producer, continuing to expand the “Star Wars” universe.
Meanwhile, Disney and 20th Century Animation have confirmed that “Ice Age 6” is officially in production.
The beloved franchise will feature returning stars Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg, who will reprise their iconic voice roles in this latest adventure.
