Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar experience a nightmarish first date in their upcoming thriller.
On Wednesday, January 22, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse released the first trailer for Drop, a film starring Fahy, 34, as Violet, a widow and mother who is stepping out for her first date in years with Henry, played by Sklenar.
The movie’s synopsis teases that Henry is “more charming and handsome than she expected.” However, their chemistry quickly turns sour as Violet begins to be annoyed and eventually terrorized by a series of anonymous messages sent to her phone.
“She is told not to tell anyone and to follow the instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son and her babysitting sister,” the synopsis explains.
“Violet must follow the instructions precisely, or everyone she loves will die. The final demand from her unseen tormentor? Kill Henry.”
In addition to Fahy and Sklenar, the movie stars Violett Beane and Jacob Robinson as Violet’s sister and son, respectively, while Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffery Self, Ed Weeks, and Travis Nelson play the restaurant’s staff and other patrons.
Directed by Christopher Landon, known for writing and directing Happy Death Day and the 2020 slasher Freaky, Drop is written by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach, who have penned Blumhouse horror films such as Truth or Dare and Fantasy Island. Michael Bay is listed among the film’s producers.
Fahy, best known for her role in The White Lotus, recently appeared in 2024’s Your Monster and the Netflix series The Perfect Couple.
Sklenar starred in the 2024 adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us and the Paramount+ Yellowstone prequel series 1923. Drop will hit theaters on April 11.
