Former AFL star Sam Fisher has officially admitted guilt to six drug charges. The ex-St Kilda player appeared before the County Court of Victoria via video link on Thursday regarding his involvement in an interstate drug smuggling operation in 2022.
“Mr Fisher, 42, allegedly organised a parcel containing one kilogram of methamphetamine and 84 grams of cocaine to be sent from Melbourne to Perth,” the court heard.
The drugs were intercepted by WA Police in April 2022, with suspicions pointing to Mr Fisher as the mastermind behind the shipment.
Subsequently, Mr Fisher was apprehended on May 18 after a thorough search of his residence in Melbourne’s south-east, where additional drugs were discovered.
Following his arrest, Mr Fisher was remanded in custody until he secured bail in July 2022. He was then released to a rehabilitation facility.
The County Court of Victoria confirmed Mr Fisher’s admission of guilt to six charges, encompassing drug trafficking and possession offenses.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions charges that SAMUEL FISHER at Hampton in Victoria on the 20th day of April 2022 trafficked in a drug of dependence, namely Methylamphetamine, in a quantity that was not less than the large commercial quantity applicable to that drug of dependence,” the court wrote in a statement.
In addition, he confessed to trafficking charges involving drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine, and 1,4-Butanediol.
Also, he acknowledged possession of substances including ketamine, LSD, testosterone, and diazepam.
Mr. Fisher is now confronting the possibility of incarceration following Judge Gerard Mullaly’s announcement of a maximum penalty of five years and four months in jail.
The case has been adjourned to a pre-sentencing hearing scheduled for April 29, with Mr. Fisher’s bail extended until his next court appearance.
