On Friday, a former White House doctor issued a letter confirming that former President Trump is “rapidly recovering” following the July 13 shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
The letter, from Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, emphasized that there is “absolutely no evidence” to suggest that anything other than a bullet struck Trump.
Jackson, who previously served as Trump’s physician, expressed his disagreement with FBI Director Christopher Wray’s recent testimony. Jackson stated, “I want to reassure the American people and the rest of the world that President Trump is doing extremely well.”
He explained that he has been closely monitoring Trump’s health along with his primary care physician since the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Jackson criticized Wray’s comments from the Congressional Hearing, where Wray had suggested the possibility of the injury being caused by a bullet, shrapnel, or glass.
Jackson refuted these claims, asserting that “There is absolutely no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet.” He called for Congress to correct the record based on confirmations from both the hospital and himself, and labeled Wray’s remarks as incorrect and inappropriate.
Wray, in his testimony, did not mention glass but did express uncertainty about whether the injury was caused by a bullet or shrapnel. He stated, “With respect to former President Trump, there is some question about whether it was a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear.”
Following Jackson’s letter, the FBI issued a statement to Fox News Digital confirming that what struck Trump in the ear was indeed a bullet, whether intact or fragmented.
The FBI noted that the would-be assassin fired multiple rounds from a high-powered rifle at close range, with one bullet hitting Trump in the right ear.
Jackson, who served as White House Physician for 14 years across three presidential administrations, also acknowledged the global significance of the assassination attempt.
He reaffirmed, “President Trump is doing extremely well and is rapidly recovering from the gunshot wound to his right ear.” Jackson pledged to remain available to assist Trump and his personal physician as needed and to provide updates with Trump’s permission.
In a Thursday interview on FOX Business’ “Kudlow,” Jackson criticized Wray’s suggestion of alternatives to a bullet, calling it “absolutely ridiculous” and detrimental to Wray’s credibility. He also noted that there was a clear bullet track upon examination.
Jackson commended the establishment of a bipartisan House task force to investigate the shooting, expressing a lack of confidence in the FBI and questioning Wray’s statements without evidence. He emphasized that no fractured glass was found at the scene.
The FBI, in response to Fox News Digital, highlighted its focus on understanding the motives of the alleged shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20.
An FBI spokesperson stated, “Since the day of the attack, the FBI has been consistent and clear that the shooting was an attempted assassination of former President Trump, resulting in his injury, the death of a heroic father, and the injuries of several other victims.”
The spokesperson added that the FBI is dedicating significant resources to uncover all details about the shooter and the circumstances leading to the attack. The FBI’s Shooting Reconstruction Team is still examining evidence from the scene, including recovered bullet fragments.
