Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are officially back together in the trailer for their highly anticipated sequel, Freakier Friday.
Lohan, 38, and Curtis, 66, bring plenty of laughs in the film’s first official teaser, which debuted on Friday, March 14. “That’s interesting, your life lines—it’s like they’ve intersected before.
You’ve walked in each other’s path,” a fortune teller (played by Vanessa Bayer) eerily warns Tess (Curtis) and Anna Coleman (Lohan). “You learned a lesson, a lesson that may serve you again.”
The mother-daughter duo immediately jump up and leave, unwilling to relive their past experience—only for the premonition to come true once again, but this time with a twist.
In this sequel, not only do Tess and Anna swap bodies again, but Anna’s daughter and her British friend also find themselves caught in the magical mishap, leading to even more comedic chaos.
“My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot,” Curtis quips as she stares at her new reflection.
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis Reunite in Freakier Friday Trailer
Throughout the trailer, the characters must once again pretend to be one another until they can switch back, which results in a series of hilarious situations—including playing pickleball, attending high school, driving a convertible, and encountering Chad Michael Murray’s Jake from the original movie.
There’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Lohan’s Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix, who is seen rolling her eyes in the trailer while standing beside someone dressed as a giant pizza.
Freakier Friday—the follow-up to the 2003 Disney film that saw Curtis and Lohan’s characters, Tess and Anna Coleman, switch bodies with comedic results—is set to premiere in theaters on August 8.
Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis to Reunite for Freaky Friday Sequel: Everything to Know
In May 2023, Curtis and Lohan marked the original film’s 20th anniversary and addressed the speculation about a possible sequel during a joint interview with The New York Times.
“As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Curtis shared.
“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”
Lohan, for her part, was eager to return. “We’re leaving it in the hands that be,” she explained at the time. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
Lindsay Lohan Through the Years
In March 2024, it was officially confirmed that the sequel was in development. Just three months later, the actresses reunited on set.
“The band’s back together and coming to theaters in 2025,” the Disney Studios TikTok account announced in June 2024, alongside a video featuring Lohan and Curtis posing next to their trailers. “The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!”
The Plot and Returning Cast
The film’s logline reveals that the sequel takes place “years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis” due to their magical body swap.
“Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
Chad Michael Murray, 43, and Mark Harmon have been confirmed to reprise their roles as Jake and Ryan, respectively. Other returning cast members include Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
The sequel will also introduce new faces, with Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan joining the ensemble.
Lindsay! Selena! Disney Stars Through the Years
In August 2024, Lohan and Curtis officially announced the sequel’s title as Freakier Friday.
“It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys,” Lohan teased while speaking at D23. “Seriously, the only reason we are back here doing this [is] because of your love. That is why.”
Curtis echoed the sentiment, adding, “It feels like picking up where we left off, which is really beautiful.”
