Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to reprise their iconic roles as mother and daughter in the highly anticipated Freaky Friday sequel, which is officially in development.
“As I traveled the world promoting Halloween Ends, people kept asking if there would be another Freaky Friday.
It struck a chord,” Curtis told in May 2023. “When I returned, I reached out to my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s another movie to be made.’”
Lohan agreed, expressing that both she and Curtis were “leaving it in the hands of Disney.” She added, “We would only make something that people would truly love.”
The original Freaky Friday premiered in 2003, with Lohan playing the rebellious teenager Anna and Curtis as her mother, Tess.
The film follows the pair as they switch bodies after eating magical fortune cookies, forcing them to walk in each other’s shoes. The movie also starred Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray.
In reflecting on the film’s 20th anniversary, Curtis recalled Lohan’s remarkable talent on set, describing her as “fluid.”
“She has an impressive ability as an actor,” Curtis said in the film’s NYT profile. “It was a big production, and our working relationship was incredibly easy.”
Lohan shared that Curtis “took me under her wing” during filming.
“Jamie brought such infectious energy every day, setting the tone for the whole set,” Lohan recalled. “I was so nervous for my first on-screen kiss, and she came to my trailer and made it funny so I wouldn’t be stressed.”
The original stars aren’t the only ones excited to return for the sequel. Scroll on for all the details about the follow-up film so far:
