Gabby Douglas, the 2012 Olympic all-around champion, faced disappointment in her return to competitive gymnastics at the U.S. Classic. She struggled on the uneven bars, scoring 10.100, and subsequently withdrew from the rest of the competition.
Her withdrawal from the U.S. Classic means she won’t qualify for the all-around at the U.S. Championships later this month.
She can’t petition to compete on all four apparatus because she already earned an all-around score at April’s American Classic.
Despite her setback at the U.S. Classic, Gabby Douglas, aged 28, has still qualified in three apparatuses for the nationals, scheduled to begin on May 30 in Fort Worth. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials are slated for the end of June in Minneapolis.
