Uncork’d Entertainment has secured U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to George A. Romero’s Resident Evil, an investigative documentary goes into one of Hollywood’s most fascinating “what could have been” stories.

Back in 1998, Constantin Film embarked on the ambitious task of adapting the iconic horror video game Resident Evil for the big screen.
To helm the project, they enlisted none other than George A. Romero, the visionary filmmaker who revolutionized the zombie genre. Yet, despite what seemed like a dream collaboration between two of horror’s greatest creative forces, Romero’s adaptation never came to fruition.
For the first time, Salisbury’s documentary sheds light on the untold story behind this project, offering fans a rare chance into what might have been.
“George Romero gave birth to modern horror, the modern zombie, and ultimately Resident Evil,” Salisbury reflects. “It’s an honor to bring fans the hidden tale of his most significant unmade project.
This documentary celebrates the legacy of the man who inspired me to pursue filmmaking as a career. I hope fans embrace this ultimate experience in survival horror.”
George A. Romero’s Resident Evil provides a deeply immersive, stylized journey, blending archival footage, newly unearthed documents, and exclusive interviews with key figures involved in the project.
Drawing inspiration from acclaimed documentaries like Jodorowsky’s Dune, Salisbury weaves a compelling narrative exploring the creative vision and the people behind this unproduced adaptation.
Through revealing conversations with industry insiders, the documentary uncovers the enduring mystery and ambitious spirit that might have redefined Resident Evil’s trajectory in Hollywood.
“Uncork’d is honored to bring George A. Romero’s Resident Evil to audiences who have long awaited the untold story of this legendary, unrealized project,” says Keith Leopard, President of Uncork’d Entertainment.
“This documentary is a tribute to Romero’s extraordinary vision and storytelling, which transcends the boundaries of what could have been.
“We’re thrilled for viewers to finally delve into the mystery and legacy of his work in an entirely new way.”
