How would you feel if an experiment performed by you to form artificial gold ended up in forming a brand new species of creatures that are able to fuse with malice human beings to form humanoids that are known to be Malgams?
What if you are the chosen one to find the released “Chemies,” the artificial lifeforms formed by the experiments performed in secret by alchemy techniques, and have a friend helping you with the hopes of controlling the damage caused?
Directed by Ryuta Tasaki, a Japanese Tokusatsu drama series titled “Kamen Rider Gotchard” follows a similar plot line with the series lead Hotaro Ichinose being a student at Furasu High School is responsible for getting back the “Chemies” accidentally released one day in the wild to try and control the havoc created by these creatures due to them having the ability to fuse with malice humans.
Well, a hero cannot do all the work without a support system; thus, he has Rinne, a fellow student at the same high school as Hotaro Ichinose and Fuga’s daughter, the alchemist responsible for directing Hotaro Ichinose to retrieve the “Chemies” back from the wild.
Well, as many of you guessed, what is a successful hero story without a powerful opponent ready to wreak havoc to be better than the hero himself in this series? Supana Kurogane, a graduate of the Alchemy academy, serves the purpose of the worthy opponent as he is also tasked with getting the lifeforms back.
Released on September 3, 2023, Kamen Rider Gotchard is based on a media franchise titled “Kamen Rider” by Shotaro Ishinomori and stars Junsei Motojima playing Hotaro Ichinose’s role, the series protagonist, Reiyo Matsumoto playing Rinne Kudo’s role, Fuga’s daughter.
Yasunari Fujibayashi plays Supana Kurogane’s role, Itono Okita plays Atropos’s role, Kanon Miyahara plays Clotho’s role, and Arisa Sakamaki plays Lachesis’s role in the lead. Developed by Ishimori Productions and Toei Company, the drama series was written by Keiichi Hasegawa and Hiroki Uchida. The series has released ten episodes to date with a run time ranging between 24 to 25 minutes for viewers to enjoy.
Premise
Well, the series plot is quite simple, with the main focus being on the protagonist Hotaro Ichinose, a student at Furasu High School, who accidentally stumbled into Alchemy Academy, a secret school for apprentice alchemists located just below his high school where he receives responsibilities by Fuga Kudo.
Everything started way back when Alchmey, pseudo-science used in an attempt to create “gold,” was used by trained alchemists in hopes of making artificial gold using different combinations, but one failed experiment brought life to a different race of creatures known as “Chemies,” who have the ability to become a humanoid after infusing with spiteful humans.
Well, everything was going fine until it wasn’t after the carefully stored “Chemies” were released into the wild by accident thus causing havoc in the world as the Chemies were used by ill-intent people for their benefit. As these experiments were done in secret and kept hidden from the world, the responsibility to stop the chaos falls on the shoulders of the trained alchemist performing the experiments.
This is where our hero comes in as Houtarou got entrusted with the responsibility to retrieve all the accidentally released “Chemies” by Fuga with help from his daughter as some of these “Chemies” were well-suited for human companionship and Houtaru would have been able to fuse with them to form a good-hearted Kamen Rider Gotchard.
Fuga, an alchemist, gives Hotaro the GotcharDriver to become the Kamen Rider Gotchard that would help our protagonist in retrieving the “Chemies” from the wild, thus helping the world from being destroyed by them due to their ability to become humanoid monsters known as Malgam, if they fue with spiteful humans.
Well, at the same time, Supana Kurogane, a graduate from the Alchemy Academy who views the “Chemies” as a tool, also gets tasked with the responsibility of retrieving the “Chemies,” thus making him a worthy opponent and Hotaro’s rival, whose views clashes with Supana as Hotaro wants to become friends with these lifeforms.
Well, these “Chemies” are also desired by the three dark sisters named Clotho, Atropos, and Lachesis, who want these creatures to use them for their benefit and wreak more havoc on an already chaotic world and ultimately become a ruler.
Our hero Hotaro first fused with a grasshopper to transform into Hopper 1, then with a Steam Locomotive Chemie to start his journey as the Kamen Rider Gotchard and try to retrieve all of the “Chemies” from the wild.
