Actor Im Si Wan, who played a major role in Netflix’s hit Squid Game 3, recently opened up about the emotional weight of keeping spoilers under wraps—and the guilt that came with it.

In a candid interview with Sports Chosun, the actor confessed to deliberately misleading fans during Season 2 promotions.

“I’m sorry. I lied. I’m a coward,” he said, laughing.

Though fans speculated he would survive based on his name’s position in the credits, Si Wan claimed ignorance at the time—something he now admits was a calculated attempt to avoid spoilers.

Im Si Wan humorously revealed that he even trained himself not to recall specific plot details, fearing that vivid memories would cause him to slip up during interviews.

“It was easier to just convince myself I didn’t know anything,” he added.

Now that Squid Game 3 has premiered, Si Wan says he finally feels free:

“We’re in a new phase. If I wanted, I could spoil everything now. Cate Blanchett cameo? Yup. I can say it all now.”

The series has become a massive success globally since its June 27 release, racking up 60.1 million views in just three days and debuting at #1 in all 93 Netflix-tracked countries—a first in the platform’s history.

With this milestone, Squid Game Season 3 has joined its predecessors in Netflix’s all-time Top 10 non-English TV series, cementing the franchise’s dominance.

Meanwhile, Seasons 1 and 2 saw a resurgence in popularity, climbing to 6th and 3rd place, respectively, on Netflix’s global weekly charts.

Im Si Wan’s confession offers fans a lighthearted look behind the scenes, even as Squid Game 3 continues to amaze audiences with its dark and gripping storyline.
