Pixar has announced the release dates for its two upcoming television series on Disney+.
“Dream Productions,” a spinoff from “Inside Out” that centers on the studio in Riley’s mind responsible for creating dreams, is set to premiere on December 11, 2024.
All four episodes of this limited series will be available at launch. The series was revealed at D23 in August, following the successful release of “Inside Out 2,” and was originally scheduled for 2025.
The original series “Win or Lose,” featuring Will Forte as a little league baseball coach, will arrive on Disney+ on February 19, 2025.
Spanning eight episodes, this series aims to portray the experiences of eight different characters in the week leading up to the big game — showcasing the perspectives of anxious kids, their overprotective parents, and even a lovesick umpire.
Disney describes it as featuring a mix of humor, emotion, and unique animation styles for each episode.
The logline for “Dream Productions” states that Riley is maturing, and when her memories require additional processing, Joy and the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions.
The acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell) faces her own challenges while attempting to create a hit dream, collaborating with Xeni (voiced by Richard Ayoade), a self-satisfied daydream director eager to transition into the more prestigious world of night dreams.
(This setup raises questions about whether the themes are self-referential, considering it’s based on a box office hit.)
The voice cast for “Dream Productions” includes Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black, and Phyllis Smith.
The series is written and directed by Mike Jones, with Jaclyn Simon as the producer.
“Win or Lose” marks Pixar’s first long-form original series, diverging from their previous television projects that were adaptations of existing films.
The series is directed, written, and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, with David Lally as producer.
“These two series truly exemplify Pixar’s creativity at its best,” remarked Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar.
“We’re thrilled that fans won’t have to wait long for more exceptional content from the ‘Inside Out’ universe.
‘Dream Productions’ is packed with humor and fun, diving deeper into one of our favorite aspects of the original film: the crafting of Riley’s dreams.
We see ‘Win or Lose’ as a groundbreaking series for us, showcasing what we believe makes our studio special: bold, imaginative storytelling; humor that makes you laugh; and relatable characters.”
