Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have reached a settlement agreement one year after Jonas filed for divorce.
Court documents filed on September 6 on September 10 indicate that a Florida judge has ruled that Jonas and Turner’s marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
Although the specifics of their settlement remain confidential, the documents state that the agreement is “in the best interests of the parties and this family.”
The judge granted Jonas, 35, and Turner, 28, the ability to waive the 20-day waiting period for final judgment, concluding, “The marriage between the parties is dissolved and the parties are restored to the status of being single.”
Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on September 5, 2023, as confirmed by court documents. The filing stated that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”
The following day, Jonas and Turner posted a joint statement on their social media accounts about ending their four-year marriage.
“Statement from the two of us: ‘After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,'” they wrote on Instagram.
“There are many speculative narratives as to why, but truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children,” the statement concluded.
Documents filed on September 21, 2023, revealed that Turner described the breakdown of their marriage as happening “very suddenly” following an argument on August 15, 2023. Turner stated she learned about their separation “through the media” shortly after Jonas’ filing.
According to the divorce filing, Jonas and Turner have a prenup in place.
On September 25, 2023, Turner and Jonas temporarily agreed that their two children would remain in New York amid their custody dispute, as detailed in documents filed in New York.
This filing occurred shortly after Turner sued Jonas for wrongful retention of their daughters, claiming Jonas was withholding their passports and preventing them from returning to England. Turner later dropped this claim in January 2024.
In previously obtained court documents from October 10, 2023, the estranged couple reached a temporary agreement concerning their daughters, Delphine, 2, and Willa, 4, after “engaging in a productive mediation from October 4-7.”
The custody issue intensified when Turner and Jonas met to discuss future arrangements two weeks after their split.
Turner’s petition stated that she reiterated her plan to move to England, which led to a change of heart by Jonas.
Turner alleged that they had previously agreed that England would be their “forever home” during conversations at Christmas 2022.
Following Turner’s complaint, a representative for Jonas disputed her claims, stating that they had agreed on a co-parenting plan.
The statement also mentioned that less than 24 hours after this agreement, Turner demanded the children’s passports to take them to the UK immediately.
In March 2024, Turner and her attorneys requested a judge to “reactivate” the case. A representative for Jonas told that the filing was a “legal formality,” and that the couple was still negotiating an amicable resolution.
Turner addressed the custody battle in May 2024, telling British Vogue that she was “unhappy” with how it “played out, especially when it comes to my children.
They’re the victims in all of this. But I think we’re doing the best we can. I’m confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for.”
The couple, who married in 2019 after nearly three years of dating, celebrated their marriage with two ceremonies: one in Las Vegas and another in France.
