John Reardon, an actor known for his role on the Hallmark Channel and as the star of the Canadian police procedural drama Hudson & Rex, has revealed that he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
In a heartfelt social media post, Reardon shared two photos, one of which shows him in a hospital with his eyes closed. He expressed his gratitude and explained the long recovery journey he had been through.
“Last night was my first night out after my recovery from tonsil cancer. It has been a long road between these two pictures, and the difference is from the love and support I received from the people in my life,” he wrote on Instagram.
He went on to thank everyone who had supported him, beginning with his partner, Meghan Ory. “My amazing partner @officialmeghanory for taking on our whole world to help me get better. My brave kids who inspired me.”
He continued, “My Dad, who took me for a walk every day even when it was hard for me to get out of bed – and I’m sure it was hard for him to see his son in pain.
My Mom @ocean__cottage who made me soups, ginger honey tea, and green juices so I could get calories into my body. My sister and brother @dr_laura_reardon @marcreardon81 who helped with the kids and the challenges of life when I couldn’t.”
Reardon also expressed thanks to his in-laws “who brought food and cookies and talked through challenges with us,” as well as their nanny, neighbors, and everyone who sent food, love, support, or kind messages.
He also took time to thank the healthcare professionals who supported him through his recovery. “To all the amazing doctors, nurses, technicians, hospital workers, psychologists, you are all my heroes and I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he wrote.
He also shared an important message: “Kindness is an underappreciated quality in people. We should never undervalue it. Celebrate it and distribute it as much as possible. It is free and life-changing. Happy Holidays.”
Reardon’s most recent Hallmark Channel movie was Believe in Christmas, which aired earlier this year, starring alongside his wife, Meghan Ory. He has also appeared in other Hallmark TV movies such as The Christmas Secret and I’ll Be Home for Christmas.
The Canadian actor has starred in Hudson & Rex since 2019, playing Detective Charlie Hudson, who works alongside Rex, a German Shepherd. The series was renewed for a seventh season in June and is set to premiere in 2025.
