Jon Bon Jovi was filming a music video on Tuesday, September 10, when he intervened to help a woman in distress on a pedestrian bridge in Nashville.
On Wednesday, September 11, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department released surveillance footage from the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.
The footage, which has since been removed from YouTube, depicted Bon Jovi approaching the woman who was standing on the edge of the bridge.
After spending a few minutes alone with her, Bon Jovi and another woman assisted in moving the distressed individual to a safer part of the bridge.
Bon Jovi continued to talk with the woman before they left the area together.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department acknowledged the musician’s actions on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “A shout out to @jonbonjovi & his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Ped Bridge Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety.”
“It takes all of us to help keep each other safe,” added MNPD Chief John Drake.
The musician was on the bridge filming a music video, which was open to the public at the time of the incident, and he offered assistance during the situation.
Bon Jovi’s foundation, the JBJ Soul Foundation, frequently addresses crises such as hunger and homelessness, equipping him with extensive experience in handling such situations.
The JBJ Soul Foundation’s mission is to “recognize and maximize the human potential in those affected by hunger, poverty, and homelessness by supporting programs that provide food and affordable housing, as well as social services and job training programs,” according to its website.
In February, Bon Jovi was honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year for his philanthropic efforts.
Laura Segura, Executive Director of MusiCares, lauded Bon Jovi in a statement upon his selection as the honoree in October 2023.
“His remarkable contributions to rock and roll have not only left an indelible mark on the music industry, but also in the hearts of countless fans around the world.
Furthermore, his long-standing commitment to serving food-insecure and unhoused individuals inspires us all.
We’re looking forward to celebrating him and the many ways he has made a difference in this world,” Segura said. Bon Jovi’s latest album, Forever, was released in June.
