Kelly Monaco is poised to leave General Hospital after over twenty years with the popular ABC daytime soap opera.
The 48-year-old Monaco will depart from the town of Port Charles through a storyline set to unfold this fall, as revealed by the source. Soap Opera Network was the first to announce her exit.
Monaco has been portraying Sam McCall on General Hospital since 2003. Before this role, she played Livvie Locke on the soap Port Charles. Her performances earned her Daytime Emmy Award nominations for both series, in 2003 and 2006, respectively.
Monaco made her mark on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars 19 years ago, where she won the Mirror Ball trophy.
She returned in 2012 for the All Stars edition of the show, finishing in third place with her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, who later made a guest appearance on General Hospital as a boxer.
In 2017, Monaco took part in Dancing With the Stars once more, performing the rumba with Terrell Owens and dance pro Cheryl Burke.
Earlier this year, Lindsay Hartley stepped in for Monaco during an episode of General Hospital, having previously substituted for her in 2020 and 2022.
Monaco also participated in the show’s 60th anniversary primetime special in January, where she reunited with Chmerkovskiy.
She shared a photo of their reunion on Instagram, writing, “I put my dancing shoes back on for the @GeneralHospital primetime special (featuring a special appearance by @valentin).
‘General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling’ airs tomorrow (January 4th) at 10pm on ABC. Don’t miss it!”
