Kevin McKidd and Danielle Savre both star in shows produced by Shonda Rhimes. The couple began dating by June 2023, when they were photographed together in Italy.
They made their red carpet debut in November 2023 at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s 15th Annual Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show.
Two months later, they attended The Walt Disney Company’s 2023 Emmy Awards Celebration, where McKidd spoke to PEOPLE about his relationship with Savre.
He said, “I feel lucky on many levels in my life right now.” He also mentioned that their real-life Shonda Rhimes crossover relationship — with him starring in Grey’s Anatomy and Savre in the spinoff Station 19 — “just kind of happened.”
Here is everything to know about Kevin McKidd and Danielle Savre’s relationship.
McKidd has been part of the Rhimes series Grey’s Anatomy since 2008, playing Dr. Owen Hunt, a United States Army trauma surgeon.
His character, initially a love interest for Sandra Oh’s Dr. Cristina Yang, struggled with war-related PTSD. Over time, Hunt and Yang divorced, Oh left the show, and Hunt began a relationship with and later married Dr. Teddy Altman, a good friend and fellow veteran.
Savre has been a member of the cast of Station 19, the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, since its premiere in 2018. In 2023, she reflected on her character, Maya Bishop, telling Phosphor magazine that playing Maya has been a significant journey.
“Playing Maya has taught me that you have to balance work and your personal life … I’m probably a little bit too much of a workaholic, but it’s always been a priority, and Maya’s arc sheds light on the fact that your personal life has to have its priorities too and there have to be boundaries,” Savre said.
The couple has had the opportunity to work together several times. They first co-starred in an episode of Grey’s Anatomy during its 16th season in 2020, when Bishop was introduced at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
Hunt has also made multiple appearances on Station 19, including crossover episodes starting in the series’ third season in 2020.
McKidd and Savre were seen kissing in Italy in June 2023, though they didn’t officially confirm their relationship then.
A few weeks later, McKidd shared an Instagram reel from their trip to the Lower Zambezi in Zambia, featuring romantic clips of Savre.
He captioned the video, “A million thank you’s to everyone @chiawasafaris & @howelltalentrelations for the trip of a LIFETIME!
Your hospitality, knowledge, heart and humor made our trip to the Lower Zambezi beyond our expectations. Our adventure was breathtaking, awe inspiring, humbling and uplifting, all because of you guys.”
Before dating Savre, McKidd had been married twice. He and his first wife, Jane Parker, divorced in 2017 after 17 years of marriage and have two children, Iona and Joseph.
McKidd’s second marriage to Arielle Goldrath resulted in two children, Aiden and Nava. The couple announced their split in July 2022 and finalized their divorce 11 months later.
In November 2023, Savre and McKidd made their relationship official by appearing together on the red carpet. They attended the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s 15th Annual Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show in Denver, Colorado, posing for affectionate photos.
McKidd and Savre have enjoyed traveling together since they began dating. In addition to their June 2023 trip to Italy, they have also traveled to Zambia, Scotland, the Dominican Republic, and Greece.
McKidd shared photos and videos from their Caribbean vacation in August 2023 on Instagram, captioning the post, “Family, fun, sun and a bundle of laughs! What an amazing family vacation!”
McKidd has been open about his admiration for Savre. At The Walt Disney Company’s 2023 Emmy Awards celebration in Los Angeles, he told, “Everything’s great. We’re really happy and she’s an amazing human being, so I feel lucky on many levels in my life right now.”
