Madonna’s kids are growing up! During a recent Instagram Live, her 18-year-old son David Banda shared some insights into his life following his recent high school graduation.
When a fan asked how he “likes living on your own,” David responded that he loves it but clarified that he’s currently living with his girlfriend.
He humorously described the experience: “It’s lovely to be hungry at 9 o’clock at night and realize I don’t have enough money to get food, and we don’t have enough food in the house, so we have to scavenge. It’s fun.”
A source that Madonna and David remain “very close” and that the superstar has “always been supportive of all her kids.”
Earlier this year, David and his sister Mercy James, also 18, hit a major milestone. In a reflective Mother’s Day post, Madonna shared a photo of the siblings dressed in blue gowns at their high school graduation.
She captioned the post, “They grow up too fast and spin out in different directions. And yes, I have a hard time letting go. David and Mercy graduated high school … Finally the realization that they were raising me and not the other way around.”
Last September, the pop icon threw a lavish party for David’s 18th birthday. She shared an Instagram Reel documenting the celebration, captioning it,
“It is impossible to believe that almost 18 years have gone by since we met you in Mchinji at Home of Hope Orphanage! Your name means ‘Speak the truth!’ I couldn’t think of a better name for an artist!”
In April, Madonna — who is also the mother of Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 23, and twins Stella and Estere, 11 — paid tribute to her children, several of whom performed with her during her recent critically acclaimed Celebration Tour.
She captioned a carousel of photos, including a shot of David, Estere, and Stella sharing a group hug with her backstage, with the message:
“I think what my children learned the most this year of rehearsing and performing is that if you want to follow your dreams, you have to work hard for them.
And if all of them choose something different later in life, they will never forget this year of blood, sweat, and tears. Nor will I.”
