A man in his 30s was recently arrested by Seoul police for forging and selling counterfeit concert tickets for the globally popular K-pop group BLACKPINK.
The Dongjak Police Station revealed on June 18 that the suspect, referred to as Mr. A, was apprehended after attempting to sell fake tickets at a café in Dongjak-gu around 9:20 p.m. on June 17. Authorities conducted a stakeout based on a tip-off and arrested him at the scene.
Upon inspection, the tickets showed clear signs of forgery, including spelling errors and tampering, which were confirmed when compared with official tickets through the authorized ticketing platform.
Investigations further uncovered that Mr. A had sold approximately 500 counterfeit tickets via a secondhand trading platform, earning roughly 80 million KRW (about 58,000 USD) from his illicit scheme.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full scope of Mr. A’s crimes, including any other offenses related to the case.
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts to crack down on fraudulent activities exploiting the immense popularity of K-pop idols like BLACKPINK.
Fans and the public are reminded to always purchase concert tickets from official sources to avoid falling victim to scams.
