Though he is rarely spotted with Christina Aguilera, Matthew Rutler was present on Monday, October 16, to show his support. Following a Jimmy Kimmel Live! Filming in Los Angeles, the 38-year-old Rutler was seen walking alongside the 42-year-old singer.
He was seen sporting an olive green T-shirt, black pants tucked into black combat boots, and a trucker hat with the emblem of the late-night program on it. Aguilera, however, was decked up in a figure-hugging black dress and matching shades.
Despite her tendency to get startled easily, Aguilera disclosed on the ABC show that she and Rutler have a lighthearted practice of playing practical jokes on one another. She told host Jimmy Kimmel that having a child has made her more aware of how easily she may cry out of fear. She thought it funny that every year, she and her fiancé intentionally try to pull practical jokes on each other.
Aguilera shares her moments with Rutler
Still, Aguilera can’t help but join in on the joke-taking fun with Rutler. She even went so far as to place a life-sized replica of Michael Myers, the movie character from the Halloween franchise, inside her wardrobe on one occasion. She didn’t do that one right that year because it didn’t scare him as much as she thought it would, Aguilera said. However, she is planning a really original concept to really surprise him the next time, she hinted.
Halloween is a holiday that the pair really loves. Throughout the entire month, they thoroughly immerse themselves in the festive music and go all out to create haunted houses for trick-or-treaters. But their nine-year-old daughter, Summer, finds their love of scary music irritating.
While at Kimmel, Aguilera played a video of herself and Rutler swaying to the hit Halloween tune “Spooky Scary Skeletons” by Andrew Gold. Summer could not help but shout, “Stop it!” in disdain while her parents were bobbing along to the music.
Aguilera and Rutler’s relationship
This couple first met while working together on the musical film “Burlesque.” They both have a strong love for Halloween. After divorcing Jordan Bratman, whom she had wed in 2005 and had a son named Max in 2008, Aguilera started dating Rutler in 2010.
Three years after beginning their relationship, Rutler and Aguilera welcomed their daughter, Summer. On Valentine’s Day of 2014, they announced their engagement, and they have been blissfully engaged ever since.
According to an exclusive insider who spoke with Us Weekly in August 2022, Christina and Matt do not currently have any plans for a wedding. According to the source, they are happy with their relationship just the way it is and don’t think a marriage license is necessary to prove their love for one another.
The insider also characterized the pair as homebodies who, like any regular couple, like spending time together at home but equally value going out on dates. Christina is busy performing on stage when she is not at home with Rutler. Her Las Vegas residency will begin on December 30 at the Voltaire Belle de Nuit in The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, with performances planned through March 2.
