We can confirm that Matthias Schoenaerts, known for his role in Rust and Bone, has been cast as the villain in Warner Bros/DC’s upcoming Supergirl.
The film is inspired by Tom King’s 2022 comic book series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which was illustrated by Bilquis Evely.
Ana Nogueira has adapted the comic for the screen. In the comic, the antagonist is Krem of the Yellow Hill, who murders a young alien girl’s father, drawing Supergirl into the ensuing conflict.
We previously reported that Craig Gillespie will direct this installment in the “Gods and Monsters” Phase 1 of the DC Extended Universe, overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Filming is set to begin in January in the UK, with a theatrical release planned for June 26, 2026.
Milly Alcock, known for her work in House of the Dragon, has secured the title role of Supergirl following an extensive casting process. She will also appear in another DC project before her film debut as the Angel of the Sky.
Gunn and Safran are producing the film, with Chantal Nong serving as the executive producer.
Schoenaerts, a Belgium native, received a César Award for Most Promising Actor for his performance in Rust and Bone. He recently appeared in the Max and HBO series The Regime alongside Kate Winslet.
His filmography includes David O. Russell’s Amsterdam, Red Sparrow with Jennifer Lawrence, Tom Hopper’s The Danish Girl, Luca Guadagnino’s A Bigger Splash, and Netflix’s The Old Guard featuring Charlize Theron.
Schoenaerts is represented by CAA, Agence Adequat, and Ken Lambrechts Artist Management.
