Mike Myers made a return to Saturday Night Live as Elon Musk—this time with a special nod to one of his most legendary film characters.
During the March 8 episode of the late-night sketch comedy show, which featured Lady Gaga as both the host and musical guest, Myers, 61, reprised his parody of the Tesla CEO in the Cold Open, marking his second time taking on the role in as many weeks.
The sketch poked fun at a reported clash between Musk, 53, Senator Marco Rubio, and other political figures at the White House.
As James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump and Marcello Hernandez’s Rubio debated Musk’s role in the administration, Myers made his entrance to loud applause.
“I can’t believe this is the guy you’ve given access to the entire government. He’s not an elected official,” Hernandez’s Rubio said, setting off a back-and-forth between him and Myers as Musk.
As Johnson’s Trump tried to mediate the argument, the camera zoomed in on Myers, who delivered a voiceover as Musk.
“Phase one of my plan is complete: ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media. But, was taking this job a bad idea?
A lot of people seem to really hate me, like, Tesla stock is really crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by 100 billion dollars,” Myers said. He then placed his pinky to his lips in a manner unmistakably reminiscent of his iconic Austin Powers villain, Dr. Evil.
The SNL political parody also referenced key moments from Trump’s March 4 speech to Congress, in which the former president, 78, touted the early achievements of his administration.
At the beginning of his address, Trump compared himself to George Washington, stating—without citing a source—”It has been stated by many that the first month of our presidency … is the most successful in the history of our nation.”
Later in his speech, Trump criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, blaming him for rising egg prices. He also listed various government expenditures—primarily to foreign nations—that he called “appalling waste,” including “$8 million for making mice transgender.”
Trump further stated that the United States was determined to acquire Greenland “one way or another” and shared his administration’s plans to reach Mars. Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
