Miranda Cosgrove is encouraging iCarly fans to remain hopeful despite the show’s recent cancellation. The actress, 31, shared her optimism about the possibility of an iCarly movie in the near future during an interview with Variety on Wednesday, July 3.
“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna happen. So I’m excited, and I’d love to get to wrap up the story,” she said.
While Cosgrove did not provide further specifics, fan support has already been enthusiastic on social media. This development comes one year after Paramount+ decided not to renew the revival series for another season.
iCarly originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2007 to 2012, propelling Cosgrove, Nathan Kress, Jennette McCurdy, and Jerry Trainor to stardom.
The series centered on Carly (Cosgrove), a teenager who created and hosted her own web show with the help of her best friends.
The show’s success led to two spinoffs. Sam & Cat, which aired from 2013 to 2014, featured McCurdy’s character Sam in a crossover with Cat from Victorious, played by Ariana Grande.
Another spinoff, which was never aired, starred Noah Munck’s character Gibby in a self-titled series about his role as a mentor at a recreation center for middle school students.
iCarly was revived by Paramount+ in 2021, set nearly a decade after the original series. The revival followed Carly as she rebooted her web show with roommate Harper (Laci Mosley) and Freddie.
Fans were taken aback by the new series’ commitment to Freddie and Carly’s romance, which had been hinted at in the original show.
After two seasons of buildup, Freddie and Carly began dating and nearly got married in what turned out to be the series finale.
Paramount+ announced the cancellation of iCarly three months after the end of season 3.
“iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+. The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together,” a spokesperson for the streaming service told Us Weekly in a statement in October 2023.
“We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors, and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity, and talent.”
The series finale concluded with a surprising twist when Carly’s mother—who had never been seen on the show—was mentioned off-camera. Paramount+’s official X account even conducted a poll asking fans which actress they would like to see cast in the role.
