Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s “Love Earth Tour” has been officially canceled.
The 78-year-old musician announced on his website on Wednesday, June 26, that while the tour has been “a great experience” with “great audiences and music,” some members of the group have fallen ill.
Young mentioned that “a couple of us got sick” after their performance at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, on Wednesday, June 22. A few days after the performance, he and the band postponed two shows in Texas “due to illness.”
In his latest update, Young explained, “When a couple of us got sick after Detroit’s Pine Knob, we had to stop. We are still not fully recovered, so sadly our great tour will have a big unplanned break.”
He noted that the band hopes to “try to play some of the dates we miss as time passes when we are ready to rock again.”
Young continued, “We know many of you made travel plans and we apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for your understanding and patience. Health is #1.
We want to stay and do more shows and more albums for you… and for us. With love and thanks to all of you from Crazy Horse… Neil, Micah, Ralph, and Billy Love Earth.”
One of the group’s highly anticipated upcoming performances was set to occur at the 2024 Ohana Festival.
The festival confirmed in a Facebook statement that the group would no longer be performing, adding, “Please stay tuned for a lineup update coming as soon as possible; in the meantime, we are wishing the band a speedy recovery.”
Young’s announcement comes just days before he and Crazy Horse are set to release *Early Daze*, a collection of recordings from 1969.
The band’s website explains that Early Daze “showcases the band’s unique style at the end of the 1960s, capturing the essence of their live performances and their contribution to the evolution of rock & roll.” The album will be released on Friday, June 28.
The current Crazy Horse lineup includes bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina, and guitarist Micah Nelson. Talbot and Molina have been with the band since 1968, while Nelson joined last year.
