Nick Viall initially avoided discussing Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo’s divorce, but he recently addressed the situation.
“It’s getting messy. I didn’t really want to talk about this out of respect for my friend Rachel,” Viall, 43, shared on the Tuesday, August 6, episode of his podcast, “The Viall Files.”
“But honestly, out of respect for Rachel, I’ve had enough of Bryan. What is going on with this guy?”
It was confirmed in January that Abasolo, 44, filed for divorce from Lindsay, 39, after four years of marriage. The couple had become engaged during the season finale of The Bachelorette season 13 in 2017.
“To clarify, when they got divorced, Bryan decided to pursue spousal support from Rachel Lindsay,” Viall told his listeners. “Then he went further, saying, ‘You should pay for me to sue you.’”
Viall acknowledged that discussing spousal support is common in divorces, but he described Abasolo’s actions as “messed up.” (Lindsay originally appeared on Viall’s season of The Bachelor in 2017 before becoming The Bachelorette.)
Abasolo initially requested spousal support in his filing. In May, he also asked Lindsay to cover $75,000 in legal fees, claiming he only earned $1,300 a month.
In June, court documents obtained by Us confirmed that Lindsay was ordered to pay $13,257 per month in temporary spousal support, $15,000 in attorney’s fees, and $5,000 for a forensic expert.
“I get that Bryan, Rachel’s ex-husband, is just exploiting the outdated legal system and marriage laws,” Viall speculated. “But that doesn’t stop me from forming an opinion about him.”
Viall criticized Abasolo for publicly “disparaging” Lindsay. “This whole mess is because of him,” he added.
“It seems like his side is leaking more and more information to make her look bad.” (Abasolo and Lindsay’s court documents are publicly available.)
The Bachelor alum called Abasolo’s actions “gross” and urged him to “have some respect for yourself and for your former wife.”
“Bryan met Rachel in his mid-30s. He was an adult, educated, and already had a career as a chiropractor,” Viall said. “Then he married Rachel, and she made him more famous, giving him a huge platform.”
Viall questioned what the “issue” was, noting that Abasolo is “good looking,” “educated,” and has a career.
“He has everything going for him,” Viall continued. “And if he couldn’t make his practice successful or become a profitable entrepreneur after everything Rachel did for him, that’s on him.”
Viall speculated that Abasolo might not be “good at business,” pointing out that Abasolo claimed his practice struggled due to decisions made for Lindsay’s career.
“That’s his fault,” Viall added. “Either he’s unmotivated or not smart enough, but Rachel gave him every opportunity to succeed.”
Concluding his remarks, Viall stated that whatever Abasolo’s issues are, they’re not Lindsay’s “problem.”
“I don’t really know Bryan personally. All I know is what I’ve seen in the press. Break up with grace and move on with your life. It didn’t work out,” Viall said as he reviewed more court documents related to their divorce. “You’re coming across as a loser, Bryan.”
