The official website for Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower (Hi no Tori: Eden no Hana), the film adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix manga, has released a new trailer and visual. The film is set to premiere in Japan on November 3 and promises a unique ending compared to the Phoenix: Eden17 anime series.
The four-episode Phoenix: Eden17 anime recently made its global debut on Disney+ under the title Hi no Tori: Eden no Sora (Phoenix: Eden’s Space).
The story of Phoenix is unique; it’s set in various periods, from ancient times to the distant future, and follows different characters across different ages. The main focus of the manga is the mythical phoenix, a bird that symbolizes eternal life and resurrection.
Each story arc within Phoenix revolves around characters who seek the Phoenix to gain immortality or a chance to change their fate. First serialized in 1967, Phoenix has become a timeless classic, influencing countless manga artists and storytellers.

About Phoenix: Eden17
The anime adaptation of the original Phoenix manga is directed by directed by Shōjirō Nishimi at Studio 4°C. Character designs are handled by Tatsuzou Nishida, who also oversees animation direction. The CGI is done by Akiko Saito, editing is dealt with by Kengo Shigemura, and art direction is overlooked by Shinji Kimura.
The new staff members include Kōji Kasamatsu as sound director, Katsunari Mano and Saku Konohana now write the scripts, and Eiko Tanaka as the producer.
The cast members for both, the anime and anime film, include Com voiced by Honoka Yoshida, George voiced by Yosuke Kubozuka, Romi voiced by Rie Miyazawa and Sudarban voiced by Issey Ogata.
The upcoming anime and film adaptation of Phoenix will animate the “Nostalgia” arc of the original manga, but the film promises to have an alternate ending. Well, that’s one way to get us to watch both adaptations.
The anime will follow the journey of a woman, Romi, and her partner as they leave a devastated Earth behind to start afresh on the planet Eden17. When they arrive, they discover that life has already been wiped out in this new world, forcing Romi to endure an even harsher stay on planet Eden.
The Plot of the Nostalgia Arc
The story begins with the tragic death of George, who lived with his lover Romi on the desert planet Eden 71. Romi, pregnant with George’s child, decides to keep the planet safe and raise her child on her own.
Despite her efforts to have descendants with George’s child, she only gives birth to boys. She goes into isolation and, eventually, wakes up to discover the rich town of Eden.
A creature named Moopie, under the guidance of the phoenix, procreated with Romi’s descendants, making Romi the Queen of Eden. However, she starts to miss Earth. One day, a boy named Com from Eden stumbles upon a mysterious rock spaceship nestled in the mountains. Joined by Romi, Com embarks on a journey to the Earth of his ancestors, a place he has never seen before.
Phoenix, created by the Godfather of Manga Osamu Tezuka, is referred to as a work of art. The storytelling deserves universal attention and praise, and not just from manga enthusiasts. Its profound themes and engaging narratives make it one of the greatest series of all time.
