Rachel Zegler has apologized for her controversial comments about Donald Trump and his supporters.
The actress shared an apology on her Instagram Story, acknowledging that her emotions got the better of her when she reacted to the 2024 presidential election results.
“Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding,” Zegler expressed in a detailed statement.
She went on to say, “I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse. This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has a right to their own opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively toward a better tomorrow.”
Zegler, 23, faced significant backlash for her remarks following President-elect Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
The criticism included public calls for Disney to remove her from the upcoming live-action *Snow White* film.
The controversy erupted after Zegler posted a lengthy message on Instagram expressing her dismay, where she wished that Trump and his supporters “never know peace.”
In the now-deleted post, Zegler wrote: “Another four years of hatred, leaning us towards a world I do not want to live in. … I am heartbroken for my friends who awoke [in] fear this morning, and I am here with you.
To cry, to yell, to hug. To wax poetic on how the left continues to fail us in forging a new path forward.” She also lamented that the election result “should not have been,” given the number of votes cast.
The actress’s remarks extended to a scathing critique of Trump voters, describing them as subscribing to a “false sense of security, masculinity, intelligence, patriotism, and humanity.” She added, “It is terrifying the number of people who stand behind what this man preaches.”
Zegler’s comments prompted sharp criticism from notable figures, including Megyn Kelly, who referred to her as a “pig” during a heated discussion.
Kelly also called on Disney to hold Zegler accountable, referencing Gina Carano’s dismissal from *The Mandalorian* over her controversial posts.
“Hello, Disney! You’re gonna have to redo your film again, because … you fired Gina Carano for far less than this nonsense,” the former Fox News host argued.
Despite the backlash, Zegler received support from some fans. One supporter posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying, “[She] needs someone to stand behind her at all times reminding her that yes she’s a sweetheart but it’s also okay to get angry and expressive.”
Another encouraged her to resist silencing herself, writing, “Don’t let [your] publicist silence [you].”
The Snow White star’s candid comments and subsequent apology have sparked an ongoing debate about the responsibilities and consequences public figures face when expressing their political views.
