ITV News presenter Rageh Omaar expressed gratitude for the supportive messages he received after falling ill during his hosting of News at Ten.
In an official statement, it confirmed that he received medical attention and is currently recuperating at home with his family.
Despite his health setback, the 56-year-old journalist remained determined to complete his presentation duties for the program.
Concerns about Omaar’s well-being surfaced on social media when he appeared to encounter difficulties while delivering the bulletins during ITV’s News at Ten broadcast on Friday.
“I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and good wishes, especially all the medical staff, all my wonderful colleagues at ITV News, and our viewers who expressed concern,” said Omaar in a statement, adding he was grateful for the support given.
ITV said: “We are wishing Rageh a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back on screen when he feels ready.”
Following ITV’s decision to pull the program from its scheduled re-runs on ITV+1, viewers were informed that the +1 service was temporarily unavailable.
On Saturday, numerous news presenters took to social media to convey their well wishes for Omaar’s swift recovery.
Marverine Cole, Omaar’s colleague and a newsreader for ITV’s Good Morning Britain, expressed her best wishes for him on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Channel 4 journalist Ayshah Tull also sent her wishes for Omaar’s speedy recovery on the platform.
Sky News correspondent Ashna Hurynag posted a message on X, wishing “the absolute legend” a full and speedy recovery.
Rageh Omaar is known for covering significant global news events for ITV News and hosting the current affairs program On Assignment. He gained prominence for his coverage of the Iraq War for the BBC in 2003.
