On June 26, the agency of popular actress Shin Se Kyung publicly announced that the prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence for an individual responsible for persistent and severe cyberbullying against the actress.
This case has attracted significant attention as it is uncommon for online malicious comments to lead to actual arrest and demands for harsh punishment in the entertainment industry.
The defendant had been anonymously harassing Shin Se Kyung, her fans, family, and acquaintances over an extended period, posting threats, slander, false information, and insults, causing serious mental distress to the actress and those close to her.

Currently in police custody and awaiting trial, the defendant has admitted to all charges and reportedly lives a reclusive life while working a part-time job.
Despite the defendant’s legal team appealing for leniency, Shin Se Kyung’s agency emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice and preventing future harm by collecting additional evidence and vowing to take strong action against similar offenders.
The agency also credited fans for providing valuable tips that aided the investigation. This case highlights the growing recognition of cyberbullying’s real-world impact and marks a rare precedent in holding online abusers accountable through the legal system.
