Scarlett Johansson and Topher Grace had an unexpected reunion on Today with Jenna & Friends on Friday, January 24, marking 20 years since they starred together in In Good Company.
During the segment, Johansson, 40, joined host Jenna Bush Hager to chat with Grace, 46, who was there to promote his upcoming action thriller, Flight Risk. However, the interview quickly turned into a nostalgic moment between the two former co-stars.
As Bush Hager began introducing Grace’s new film, he shifted the conversation to reflect on his and Johansson’s shared history.
“We haven’t seen each other for—I don’t even want to say it. It’s been like decades,” Johansson remarked.
Grace admitted that he felt nervous and intimidated when he first learned he would be working alongside Johansson on the 2004 film.
“When I got that role, I heard Scarlett was going to do it, and I was a little bit intimidated,” he recalled. “You had just been nominated for two Golden Globes for different movies.”
At the time, Johansson, then 19, had received nominations for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Girl with a Pearl Earring and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for Lost in Translation.
“I was like, ‘Oh, man,’ ” Grace added. “And then I found out that you’re so lovely and down-to-earth. And we had a blast.”
Johansson agreed, reminiscing about their time on set. “We had a great time. It didn’t seem like you were [intimidated].
I think we were both equally nervous to work with…” she trailed off before Grace finished her thought, agreeing that they were actually more nervous to work with Dennis Quaid.
In In Good Company, Grace played a young corporate executive who unexpectedly becomes the boss of a longtime employee (Quaid), only to secretly start dating his daughter, played by Johansson.
Grace and Johansson’s reunion was a treat for fans of the film, bringing back memories of their on-screen chemistry and the challenges they faced as young actors in Hollywood.
