Shakira Cancels DC Concert After Boston Stage Issues Disrupt Tour Plans and WorldPride Appearance

Colombian pop icon Shakira has cancelled her scheduled concert in Washington, DC, following complications arising from a previously cancelled show in Boston. The DC performance, planned as part of the WorldPride celebration—one of the largest LGBTQ+ festivals globally—was set to take place at Nationals Park stadium. However, logistical issues stemming from Boston have made it impossible to transport her full tour production to the nation’s capital in time. The same complications had already led to the cancellation of the Boston event.

Shakira Expresses Regret as Stage Safety Issues Force Multiple Show Cancellations

In an emotional statement, Shakira shared her devastation over the cancellations. The singer explained that unforeseen circumstances had affected not only her but other artists as well.

She expressed deep disappointment at not being able to perform and emphasized how much she had been looking forward to reconnecting with her fans. Despite the setback, Shakira reassured her audience of her commitment to rescheduling and making it up to them in the near future.

Nationals Park, the venue for the DC concert, confirmed that despite significant efforts, the show could not proceed as planned. They assured ticketholders of automatic refunds. Meanwhile, the Boston show at Fenway Park, initially scheduled for 29 May, was abruptly cancelled due to safety issues with the stage.

Additional performances by Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn were also affected. According to CBS News, Live Nation identified structural problems during a routine pre-show inspection that rendered the stage unsafe for use.

Mixed Reactions from Fans as Shakira’s Tour Faces Unexpected Setbacks and Delays

Fans voiced their frustration and disappointment across social media, with some reporting that they had travelled long distances specifically for the DC concert. One attendee shared that it was their second experience of a cancellation on this tour, calling the situation “rather disappointing.” Despite the backlash, many fans expressed their support for Shakira, recognizing that the situation was beyond her control and praising her for prioritizing safety.

Despite the recent setbacks, Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour is ongoing, with her next performance scheduled for 2 June in Atlanta. The tour, named after her twelfth studio album, includes stadium shows across North America. While the DC and Boston cancellations have disrupted her tour plans, Shakira remains focused on delivering powerful performances to her fans and is expected to resume her schedule without further interruptions.
