You might’ve bought something off Amazon without knowing that it was firstly pitched to some of the entrepreneurs in Shark Tank. Either a durable sponge, some service, or a piece of clothing, and that’s the gist of this show. Shark Tank Season 15 continues to impress with great innovation from aspiring entrepreneurs from all walks of life and all corners of the United States seeking a shot a financing.
The negotiations can get tough, deals are made, hands are shaken, and sometimes the aspiring pitchers and entrepreneurs go back home empty-handed, and sometimes they make it even without the essential help of people like Mark Cuban, or Kevin O’Leary. Now, let’s take a look at what went down last week.
Recap
We begin with two cowboys offering a solution for the outdoors. They’re from Texas, they’re asking $65K and 10% in their company for outdoorsmen. It is a portable toilet called the “KrappStrapp”. The Sharks laugh. It has pockets, compartments, holds up to 200 pounds, straps and other stuff to help outdoorsmen relieve themselves when doing number 2.
Mark Cuban tests the device (without the eschatological part). Kevin asks about financials; Mark wants to know about what they want the money for. And they open up, they need platform and names to advertise.
Robert is out, Kevin is out, Mark is out, Daymond and Lori offer a deal. Still, they offer $65K for 35% of the stake of the company. There’s a counteroffer for 25%, Lori offers 33% and the deal is done.
Next up is a dude from Oregon with a company called “Mini Materials”, he wants $100K for 20% equity. He’s in the business of making small building materials made from real concrete, metal, and wood for those who are in the hobby of making doll houses, have a knack for miniatures about these sorts of things. Robert and Kevin ask about the financials, they’re not impressed. He advertises via social media and wants a helping hand. Daymond isn’t sure about who to market this thing, and he’s out.
Mark asks a few questions about the company’s weaknesses; Kevin considers there’s no market in that and he’s out. Lori says the business is not for her, so, she’s out. Robert is also out. Mark considers the product is good but the growth rate of the business isn’t favorable going forward so, he’s out.
Next, Nicholas and George, two guitar players seek $70k for 10% equity in their guitar pick innovation product. Guitar players lose their guitar picks all the time, and these plastic things stick to the guitar, they’re compatible with electric guitars and Kevin O’Leary tests the guitar out by playing a cool riff.
Kevin O’Leary asks about the design and financials, Lori asks about the materials and costs, Robert wants to know about the merchandising and advertising. Mark remains silent. Daymond seems interested in growth and profitability. Mark offers 75% for 16%, and they shake hands and have a deal.
Next up is Jennifer from Brooklyn, NY. She wants a quarter million dollars and 10% equity in her company “Supermix Studio”, it’s a clothing design for kids that allows children to personalize their clothing. She offers a website with a design platform, and then the company makes the design and gives them authenticity.
Lori asks about the financials, and so does Daymond and Robert. Mark remains silent and so does Kevin. Jennifer explains that the amount of money she wants is for making more and better patches as well as higher quality fabrics. She tells the sharks that she worked for Tommy Hilfiger and Gloria Vanderbilt, and after a few years in corporate, she works now in her own company.
She wants to expand, and the sharks want to know why and where. Mark has objections on distribution, and he’s out. Daymond is out too. Robert thinks the sales are low, and might be interested that if Jennifer thinks her distribution model, he might make an offer.
Kevin is out because of the distribution model. Lori likes the idea, still it’s the distribution model and she’s thinking about an offer. She and Robert offer $250K and 25% equity plus a 5% royalty until the quarter million dollars are paid. Jennifer counters at 2% royalty at 20% equity, but Robert rejects the counteroffer. Robert and Lori offer the same quarter million 20% equity plus 3.5% royalty, and they have a deal.
