Shrek fans are getting their first glimpse of the highly anticipated fifth installment. A newly released teaser clip from Universal Pictures on Thursday, Feb. 27, confirms that Zendaya has joined the voice cast of Shrek 5, alongside returning stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy.
“Far, Far Away’s finest are coming,” the studio captioned the video on Instagram.
In the clip, Donkey asks the magic mirror who the fairest of them all is, as Shrek and Fiona stand beside their daughter, a new character voiced by Zendaya. Pinocchio also makes an appearance, telling a lie that prompts his nose to grow.
Back in August 2017, Zendaya, now 28, tweeted, “I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood.” Following the announcement of her casting, the official Shrek account shared her old tweet, commenting, “This aged well.”
The original Shrek film premiered in 2001 and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The franchise continued with Shrek 2 in 2004, Shrek the Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010.
Antonio Banderas’ character, Puss in Boots, also spawned two successful spinoffs: Puss in Boots (2011) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022). Shrek 5 is set to hit theaters on Dec. 23, 2026.
