Whether you wear pants or not, the Sisterhood’s unbreakable bond endures! At a Barbie screening and Q&A led by SAG-AFTRA on Friday, the stars came together in New York City to support America Ferrera, nearly twenty years after the film adaptation of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants first appeared on screen.
America Ferrera shared a photo of her reunion with her former co-stars, Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, and Blake Lively.
They were all dressed in Barbie pink, a departure from their denim-clad appearances in the 2005 film. Barbie star Ferrera wore exactly the same dress for the special occasion—a stylish white gown with a drape that matched the pink hues of her friends.
Josh Horowitz posted the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women’s reunion
The host of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Josh Horowitz, shared the reunion photo on X (formerly Twitter) and expressed his excitement.
He also disclosed that he spoke with Blake Lively during the event. “I just need everyone to know I witnessed the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women reunite in front of my eyes tonight, and Blake Lively and I talked about how lazy Santa is,” he said. “Now I’m getting tacos from a food truck.”
Along with the actresses, Horowitz shared a photo of them on his Instagram Story, writing, “Those pants won’t stop traveling!” Although public reunions between the former co-stars are uncommon, the on-screen best friends have been transparent about their long-lasting friendship off-screen over time.
Blake Lively has a close relationship with the movie stars
Blake Lively revealed to PEOPLE in 2020 that she still has a close relationship with the “amazing” actresses from the well-liked 2005 film adaptation and its 2008 follow-up.
Blake Lively thanked Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, and America Ferrara—three people she met when she was sixteen—for their enduring friendships. Over the years, the trio was recognized by the former Gossip Girl star as mentors in addition to being friends. Lively praised her Sisterhood co-stars for their unwavering dedication to speaking up in a variety of contexts, including social, political, artistic, and personal.
She underlined that even if others disagree, they can still make a big difference by speaking up. For Lively, seeing women who not only take responsibility for their own lives but also inspire and assist other women in speaking up and pursuing their dreams is what matters most.
Ferrera’s sentiments on the series
Similar to Lively, 39-year-old Ferrera stated in 2019 that she wished for a third episode of the beloved program. She emphasized how much she and her pals from real life enjoyed the show and one another.
At the time, Ferrera told PEOPLE how much the cast cared for one another, how proud they were of their collaboration, and how eager they were to work together again. As the comedic movie’s 16th anniversary drew near in 2021, the Barbie actress took to Instagram to sincerely message her former castmates.
In a caption for a picture of the co-stars from sixteen years ago, Ferrera said, “Four girls shared the pants and some questionable fashion choices 16 years ago.”
With a laugh, she wondered aloud about the mysteries of their former hairstyles, jokingly questioning the oddities of orange skin, the lack of crimps and curls, and the popularity of naturally colored hair. She ultimately described the time as “magical but messy in the 2000s.”
Tamblyn, forty, and Bledel, forty-two, have made insinuations about possibly getting back together on screen.
In 2018, Bledel revealed that the four co-stars had submitted a third movie pitch on The Tonight Show. We don’t get to see each other very often because of work, family, and other obligations, but we do get together when everyone is in town. We recently pitched a third movie, which I hope gets picked up. That would be incredible.”
In The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, four best friends—Lena (Bledel), Bridget (Lively), Carmen (Ferrera), and Tibby (Tamblyn)—create a plan to stay in touch even though their lives take different turns. They do this by passing around a pair of used jeans that fit each other’s bodies perfectly.
