The first teaser for season two of Squid Game reveals that the deadly competition is far from over, even when it seems finished.
Netflix unveiled this new footage during a live fan event in Atlanta on Thursday, concluding its Geeked Week, which featured numerous announcements about its genre programming.
It was previously confirmed that the streaming giant’s biggest hit will return on December 26, more than three years after the first season became a global phenomenon in 2021.
In the teaser, a new game begins, but Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), appearing tense and uneasy, finds himself once again back in the deadly competition as Player 456, still clad in the familiar green tracksuit.
“We’re ready to start the game,” a voice ominously says in Korean. You can watch the teaser below.
Along with Lee, other returning cast members for the second season of the Emmy-winning series include Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, and Gong Yoo.
They will be joined by new faces such as Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that Squid Game will conclude with a third and final season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
“Seong Gi-hun, who swore revenge at the end of season one, returns and rejoins the game,” executive producer, writer, and director Hwang Dong-hyuk previously explained regarding the show’s ultimate direction.
“But will he be successful in his quest for revenge? The Front Man remains a formidable opponent, and the intense battle between their two worlds will carry over into the series finale in season three, which is coming next year.”
