Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Canada have secured the North American digital and theatrical rights for the comedy Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story.
The film stars Mike Smith as Bubbles, Robb Wells as Ricky, John Paul Tremblay as Julian, and Patrick Roach as Randy.
It serves as a spinoff from the hit Canadian series Trailer Park Boys, which has 16 seasons currently available for streaming on Netflix. Blue Fox plans a nationwide cinema release for the film, although specific dates have not yet been confirmed.
In addition to the core cast, the film features Billy Bob Thornton, known for his role in Bad Santa, and includes special appearances by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman, and *The Umbrella Academy* alum Robert Sheehan.
Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and the Shitrockers Story was written by Mike Smith and directed by Charlie Lightening, who is also known for his work on Liam Gallagher: As It Was.
The production team includes Smith, Wells, Tremblay, Lewin Webb, Jamie Brown, and Gary Howsam. The film was produced under a Canada-U.K. co-production agreement.
The story follows Bubbles and his band, The Shitrockers, as they set out on a European rock tour and manage to land an opening gig for Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.
However, after making the journey from Nova Scotia to Prague, they are abruptly dropped from the tour and are forced to busk in order to survive and find their way back home. Meanwhile, Ricky and Julian must find a way to pursue their dreams again—if that’s even possible.
In real life, Smith leads the band Bubbles and the Shitrockers, who are set to release a 14-track album on Spotify and Apple Music.
The band will also go on a genuine tour across the U.S. and Europe, which will include live performances alongside Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters.
The acquisition deal was negotiated by Ian Goggins, Dave Hudakoc, and Lisa Gutberlet for Blue Fox Entertainment and Blue Fox Entertainment Canada, while Gary Howsam handled negotiations on behalf of the filmmakers.
