Produced by horror expert James Wan, the visionary behind “The Conjuring” and “Insidious” franchises, and spearheaded by writer/producer Ian McCulloch of “Yellowstone” and “Chicago Fire” fame, Peacock’s upcoming thriller Teacup is set to terrify audiences just in time for Halloween.
This series is an adaptation of Robert McCammon’s New York Times bestseller Stinger, which tells the story of a diverse group of individuals coming together to battle a monstrous creature threatening to destroy a small rural town.
While the original novel is set in Texas, Teacup shifts the location to Georgia, starring Yvonne Strahovski (The Handmaid’s Tale), Scott Speedman (Grey’s Anatomy), Rob Morgan (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), and Chaske Spencer (Banshee).
The series debuts on Peacock on Thursday, October 10, with two new episodes released each week leading up to Halloween.
James Wan produces the series through his production company, Atomic Monster, while the direction is helmed by E.L. Katz (The Haunting of Bly Manor), John Hyams (Chucky), Chloe Okuno (Watcher), and Kevin Tancharoen (The Brothers Sun).
The first two episodes were revealed at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, on September 22, followed by a Q&A session with McCulloch and the cast.
Universal Content Productions, part of Universal Studio Group, is behind the series.
In a statement, McCulloch discussed the adaptation process, saying, “The series has evolved into its own entity: a puzzle-box mystery, an edge-of-your-seat thriller, a can’t-look-away horror tale, a family drama, and a science fiction epic — all viewed through a keyhole.
As unique and surprising as I hope Teacup is, its foundation remains deeply rooted in Stinger. That’s exactly how it should be.”
James Wan also expressed what drew him to the project, stating, “After reading Robert McCammon’s Stinger, the team at Atomic Monster felt an immediate connection.
The story had everything needed for a compelling series, and Ian McCulloch’s vision gave it new life — something dark, atmospheric, and intense, but full of humanity, which is often absent in more intense narratives.
With our outstanding cast, led by Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, and Chaske Spencer, fans are in for a true edge-of-your-seat thrill ride.”
Catch the first two episodes of Teacup streaming on Peacock starting October 10.
