Fans of “Ted Lasso” might be in for a treat. Just two weeks after “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence hinted that more episodes could be on the horizon, there’s news that the hit Apple TV+ show might return for a fourth season.
Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the popular soccer comedy, has reportedly renewed the contracts of three key cast members.
Sources told that the studio has signed on Hannah Waddingham, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein, who portrays the gruff Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift, who stars as Leslie Higgins, the club’s Director of Football Operations, for a potential fourth season.
The final episode of the show’s third season aired in May 2023. All three actors are members of Equity, the U.K.’s trade union for performers.
The studio is now expected to approach other “Ted Lasso” cast members whose SAG-AFTRA contracts have expired.
Earlier this month, Lawrence mentioned that the show’s return ultimately depends on Jason Sudeikis, who plays the titular character and co-created the series with Lawrence and Brendan Hunt, known to fans as Coach Beard.
The heartwarming comedy originated from a character Sudeikis created for a series of commercials.
Deadline also reported that the studio plans to reach out to Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones, as part of the process.
Before Warner Bros. can officially greenlight a fourth season, budgets must be approved, and schedules need to be aligned. Production could potentially begin in early 2025, according to the report, which also suggests that Sudeikis might already be on board.
“Ted Lasso” was initially conceived as a three-season series, but Apple never explicitly labeled the last episode as the series finale.
The show, set in England, concluded with Ted returning to Kansas, where he is seen coaching his son’s soccer team.
