Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck has finally received a release date. The upcoming sci-fi drama will follow in the footsteps of other Stephen King adaptations such as The Monkey and the It spin-off Welcome to Derry, with its release set for 2025.
Specifically, NEON has confirmed that the film will hit theaters on May 30, 2025 — a full six years after Flanagan’s previous feature, Doctor Sleep.
Based on a short story from Stephen King’s If It Bleeds collection (which also includes Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, the inspiration for the 2022 Netflix film), The Life of Chuck follows the life of the titular Charles “Chuck” Krantz, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston of Loki fame.
After Chuck dies from a brain tumor at 39, he journeys back in time to witness his life unfold in reverse. The film revisits key moments of Chuck’s life before he finds himself once again living in a seemingly haunted house. (Of course, no Flanagan film would be complete without a touch of the supernatural.)
The movie also stars Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Q’orianka Kilcher (Yellowstone), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), and Mark Hamill, who is collaborating with Flanagan for the first time after their work together on The Fall of the House of Usher.
Other familiar faces from Flanagan’s frequent collaborators include Kate Siegel, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, and Jacob Tremblay.
“I’m excited for people to experience this movie because I think [it’s] exactly what the world needs right now,” Matthew Lillard, who has a small role in the film.
