Roronoa Zoro, the major crew member of the Straw Hat Pirates, is considered as the strongest among the swordsmen.
He is popular for his remarkable swordsmanship. However, Zoro always had great respect for Dracule Mihawk, who was known as the world’s strongest man.
Mihawk was known among the pirates for destroying Kreig’s 50 ships on his own in the grand line, and just like Zoro, Mihawk always carried around his sword on his back.
Mihawk held the title of the strongest swordsman in the entire world. Zoro promised his friend Kuina that he would become the strongest swordsman in the world.
To get that title, Zoro had to defeat the current title holder, Mihawk, to get there. He got the opportunity to meet Mihawk during Baratie Arc when Mihawk came to the Baratie to hunt down the Straw Hat Pirates at Garp’s request.
Upon seeing the man Zoro stepping into the sea, he approaches Mihawk and challenges him to a fight to defeat him and become the strongest swordsman in the world.
Mihawk did not take Zoro’s challenge seriously because Zoro was just a weak and pathetic wannabe swordsman in front of him.
Mihawk was not just a perfectly skilled swordsman, but he was also extremely intelligent and a strategic thinker. When Zoro challenged Mihawk for a duel, his first judgment was that Zoro was a competent swordsman.
Then, he would have known about the difference in their abilities. Mihawk was wondering if Zoro was courageous or ignorant, but Zoro made it clear later on that he was just highly ambitious.
After their fight, Mihawk admitted Zoro as one of his strongest competitors. After the end of their fight, Mihawk easily defeated Zoro, and he sustained many severe wounds.
But Zoro received Mihawk’s respect, and he told Zoro to find him after getting stronger. Zoro then vowed never to get defeated by Mihawk again and become the strongest swordsman in the world.
What episode does Zoro train with Mihawk?
Zoro trained with Mihawk in episode 515 of one piece titled “I Will Be Stronger! Zoro’s Vow to the Captain”. Zoro ended up on the Grand Line’s gloomy island, the ruins of a muggy kingdom.
Zoro bowed in front of Mihawk and requested that he train him. Mihawk was disappointed with Zoro because he did not expect that Zoro would come to find his enemy for guidance.
Mihawk was sure that he overestimated Zoro and told him to find someone else because he did not have time for someone as pathetic as Zoro.
Mihawk was feeling embarrassed for Zoro, but Zoro did not move from his position. He told Mihawk that he wanted to get stronger.
Mihawk had heard that Zoro had been defeated by the Baboons. But since he could not get to the sea, Zoro came to find him. But Zoro informed him that he had beaten the baboons.
He told Mihawk he was the only one he still had not defeated. Zoro was still not stupid enough to think that he could defeat him.
Mihawk perceived that Zoro still considered him his enemy, so he was confused as to why Zoro was bowing in front of him and asking for guidance.
Zoro told Mihawk he had only one purpose, which was to defeat him. Mihawk found that quite funny since Zoro wanted Mihawk to train him so that he could kill him in the end.
But Mihawk accepted Zoro as his student and decided to train him after he recovered from his wound.
